City of London Freemen's School

The Sixth Form

Matthew Close,
Head of Sixth Form

Welcome to the Sixth Form at the City of London Freemen's School.

Enjoying their own Grade II listed accommodation as well as the School’s other outstanding facilities, the Sixth Form follow a broad and flexible curriculum leading to GCE at AS and A2. Results show a 100% pass rate, with a very high proportion (90% in 2010) of passes at grades A*, A and B, and the full Careers programme assists almost all students to move on after two years to their first choice degree or other courses, many at major UK universities, including Oxford and Cambridge.

With around 200 students in Years 12 and 13, a near 50:50 gender balance, and pastoral care provided in small tutor groups which ensure a high degree of individual attention and advice, our Sixth Form affords many opportunities for involvement beyond the classroom, especially in the major sports, music and drama. Debating, public speaking, the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, and possibilities for taking active roles and assuming responsibility in an increasing number of areas encourage personal development and the sense of participation.

Whilst most of our Year 11 pupils progress to the Sixth Form here, at least 20 or so join us from other schools, from both this country and abroad. Assimilation is normally rapid and easy, with newcomers being warmly welcomed during the induction programme, the high quality of our pastoral care and PSHE provision being a constant aim.

We endeavour during the two years not only to furnish students with sound academic training and results in their chosen subjects but also to foster and develop effective study habits and the necessary independence and personal management to thrive after school. Freemen’s pupils leave Ashtead Park with a good amount of self-knowledge, having become articulate, socially at ease and highly capable. They are indisputably our best advertisement. If you are considering the City of London Freemen’s School for the Sixth Form, please visit the School and meet some of the Sixth Form who will show you round and give you their unscripted and genuine accounts of life here.

We look forward to meeting you.
