Freemen's School Association

Freemen’s School Association (FSA) is the parent-teacher organisation for the School. Founded in 1974 it operates as a registered charity under the auspices of the FSA Trust.

What Does the FSA Do?

The FSA raises funds and provides opportunities for members to get to know each other and feel part of the whole School community. These aims are mainly met through a programme of events such as Christmas Fairs, Quiz Nights, Barn Dances, Firework Displays and Summer Balls. The FSA also offers a weekly session in the School swimming pool and runs a Lottery with termly prize draws.

Where Does the Money Go?

Most of the money is used to fund extra equipment for the School that would not be available through normal School budgets. Recent examples would include an adventure playground, sports training machines, theatre lighting and even a ‘Beecam’ – a webcam that goes inside a beehive! In addition the FSA funds travel scholarships and sail training awards for pupils.

How is the FSA Organised?

The FSA is managed through the FSA Council which meets on a regular basis and is made up of both parents and staff. The FSA Council also includes a Governor and an Old Freemen’s Association representative.

Why Should We Join?

An important source of funding for the FSA is the one-off membership subscription fee.  Membership is voluntary but the fee is a very reasonable £25 per family - it is not payable per child nor is it payable annually.  Of course, those who don't join can still benefit from the FSA's activities so the £25 is more of a goodwill donation than a subscription. The parents of all new starters at the School are sent a membership form.

The FSA Lottery

A source of regular income for the FSA is the FSA Lottery and it also gives members the chance to win significant cash prizes.  For around £1 a week members are entered in to a termly draw.  Two-thirds of the money raised is paid out in prizes with the balance going to FSA funds to benefit the pupils of the School.

The FSA would like to welcome and thank all the new members joining this year, the applications have grown significantly!  The competition is hotting up and so too is the prize money destined for the next draw. Anyone wishing to be part of the lottery please call Julia Porter on 01372 362833, or download the application form.
