Whatever has brought you to our website, you are very welcome to Freemen’s.

Since 1854, the City of London Freemen’s School has been educating children from all walks of life, and the spirit of care and nurture on which it was founded is still in evidence today.

Set in Ashtead Park, 57 acres of stunning Surrey parkland providing a sense of openness and space, yet benefitting from a location that makes Freemen’s wonderfully accessible, the School has the best of both worlds. Its lively, co-educational community inspires young people academically – as you will see from our impressive examination results – while simultaneously opening doors for our pupils to stretch themselves athletically, creatively, culturally and socially.

Staff at Freemen’s feel a responsibility to prepare young people for life, instilling skills and values – communication, compassion, emotional intelligence, integrity, leadership, resilience – which will serve them well in their futures.

The School continues to maintain strong connections with, and benefits from the support of, The City of London Corporation. An ambitious development plan has begun at Freemen’s - an investment of over 30 million pounds: a contemporary Music School, of which any School would be proud and a modern and stylish boarding house have already been completed; an impressive new swimming pool complex is at the planning stage, and a refurbishment of the Georgian Mansion house, designed by Sir Thomas Wyatt, is in the pipeline.  Freemen’s is a forward-looking school with an ambitious agenda to support its pupils’ development.
My experience in schools – both as a pupil and as a teacher – has given me a passion for holistic education.  Having been privileged to coach teams, direct plays, contribute to music and teach at the very highest level in the classroom, I appreciate the importance of well-rounded educational provision.
Today, our young people need skills as much as they need qualifications. We should teach them that being an effective team player – able to solve problems with others – is more useful than being an isolated talent and that human qualities like creativity and compassion are absolute necessities for life.  I feel privileged to join a strong team at Freeman's and look forward to getting to know the fantastic pupils that make the School the special place it is.
I hope you will come to visit us so that you will have a chance to meet some of our wonderful pupils, parents and staff, who come together to create the warm and friendly Freemen’s community it is today.
